Genetics of Diseases

The human exome contains over 85% of disease mutations known today. It is the most revealing part of your genome, and a cost-effective and compelling approach for uncovering disease genes. We all have variations in our DNA ,that’s part of what makes us unique. But some of us have risks for less common inherited conditions where early detection and knowledge have the potential to make a difference. Most people have no idea that they have certain genetic risk factors, as this type of testing is not yet a part of standard medical screening. Genomed Disease Risk Screening can tell you how your genetics, your lifestyle, and other factors (such as smoking habit, BMI, and blood pressure) influence your risk of potentially developing complex diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and Crohn’s disease. Knowing one’s family history for disease is helpful, but not always the full story.

What are the benefits of genetic testing?

Genetic testing produces information that may help you or your healthcare provider:

– establish or confirm your specific diagnosis

– provide an explanation of the underlying cause
of your condition

– uncover potential risk of developing an underlying, multisystem condition that affects more than your health

– make informed medical decisions and provide an opportunity to start risk reduction strategies

– identify other at-risk relatives for whom genetic testing is recommended

– make informed family planning decisions

What are the genes tested?

Our Genomed Disease Risk screening tests genes related to Diseases such as  Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Allergic Rhinitis, Allergies, Alopecia Areata, Androgenetic Alopecia, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Anxiety Disorder, Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC), Asthma, Atopic Dermatitis, Atrial Fibrillation, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism, Brugada Syndrome, Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT), Childhood Ear Infection, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Chronic Periodontitis, Cluster Headache, Crohn’s Disease, Deep Vein Thrombosis, Depression, Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Duodenal Ulcer, Early Onset Myocardial Infarction, Endometriosis, Gallstone Disease, Glaucoma, Gout, High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) Cholesterol, Hyperhomocysteinemia, Hypertriglyceridemia, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), Hypothyroidism, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), Inflammatory Skin Disease, Influenza (Flu) Susceptibility, Insulin Resistance and Response, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Kidney Stones, Long QT Syndrome, Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease, Male Infertility, Migraine, Non-Syndromic Hearing Loss, Noonan Syndrome, Opioid Addiction, Orthostatic Hypotension, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis, Peripheral Artery Disease, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Psoriasis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Selective IgA deficiency, Short QT Syndrome, Sitosterolemia, Syndromic Hearing Loss, Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm and Dissection, Tooth Decay, Ulcerative Colitis and Vitiligo

What can genetic testing tell me?

A POSITIVE TEST RESULT CAN:

– Pinpoint your risk of developing diseases, enabling you to make informed medical decisions to reduce risk by creating a management plan.

– Provide an explanation for your personal or family history of diseases.

– Identify other at-risk relatives for whom genetic testing is recommended

A NEGATIVE TEST RESULT:

– Means that you do not have an alteration in the genes tested

– Your overall risk depends on your medical history, family history, and environment

AN UNCERTAIN VARIANT TEST RESULT:

– Means that an alteration was identifed, but it is not currently known if that alteration increases risk

– Should not be used to guide your medical care

– Always let your healthcare provider know if there are any updates regarding your family medical history.

Genomed will update your healthcare provider if new information becomes available.

Take Proactive Care For Your Health

Some conditions can be genetic

Most disease cases are caused by a combination of environmental conditions like pollution, and lifestyle choices like an unhealthy diet, being overweight, smoking and drinking. However, some are due to genetics.

Inherited conditions can be successfully managed

Early detection can help you and your healthcare provider create a personalised plan with lifestyle recommendations to limit any potentially serious negative health impacts. They may recommend regular exercise routine or a diet that’s low in saturated and trans fats, salt, and added sugars.

This information can help your family, too.

As hereditary health disorders run in families, your results can help your loved ones understand their health risk and take proactive care of their own health. Your healthcare provider may also identify family members who can be tested and begin start of treatment, if needed.

Take action based on your results.

With Genomed, you can make health decisions based on your results. Our medical-grade tests are the same tests used by doctors and genetic counselors. Based on your results, you can work with your healthcare provider to consider:

– increased or earlier screenings

– lifestyle modifications

– early intervention to prevent the onset of disease
